Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
